Surgeries of the Ear

Otoplasty

Ears vary greatly from person to person

You may have ears that “stick out”. This is a common situation and is referred to as prominent ears. The usual problem is a lack of the normal amount of folding in the crease in the mid portion of the ear. Resetting your ears back to a more pleasing distance from your head can be done with minimal sedation or no sedation at all. Sutures are placed behind your ears to hold them in position until they have healed solidly in place. Once your ears are healed, they will remain in their new position for the rest of your life.

Split (Torn) Earlobesph-ear-surgery.jpg
Earlobes can tear due to the use of earrings.
Piercing the earlobes has been a part of every culture. Heavy earrings can pull on the delicate skin of the earlobe to form a large opening or even a complete tear (a split earlobe).

You might notice that this has happened to you when you find the earring on your pillow with a drop of blood.  Repairing the tear is done under local nesthesia and is not painful. The original, smaller opening can be recreated or the opening removed entirely if desired. Often insurance will cover repair of this type of injury.

The earring opening can be placed in the same position as before the split occurred or it can be placed to give added symmetry if necessary.
