Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Is there a charge for a cosmetic consult?
A: Dr. Viggiano has a $70 fee for his cosmetic consultation which is applied to your cosmetic surgery.

Q: How much will my treatment cost?
A: The improvement you are seeking may be more affordable than you might imagine since Dr. Viggiano does his treatments in his certified office. Because Dr. Viggiano does so many types of treatment, it is not possible to list all the charges.  Please call the office for pricing.

Q:  Will insurance pay for my surgery?
A:  Generally insurance will pay for the repair of a significant deformity or to improve function. It will pay for skin cancer removal, removal of any irritated lesion, and hand surgery. Insurance may pay for upper eyelid surgery if vision is affected and lower eyelid surgery for a lower lid that is rotated out so much so as to cause eye pain. It will pay for that portion of nose surgery that improves breathing. It will pay for breast reduction if there is back or neck pain, bra strap grooving and pain, recurrent rashes beneath the breasts, and if more than one pound is removed from each breast (a pound of breast tissue has the volume of a pound of butter). Insurance never pays for facelifts, browlifts, liposuction, tummy tucks, improving prominent ears, breast enlargement, Skin Care Products, Botox®, or fillers.

Q:  After the procedure, when can I function at home?  When can I return to work?
A: This depends on the treatment:
a. Botox®  and injectables: Home: immediate; Work: immediate
b. Microdermabrasion: Home: immediate; Work: immediate
c. Chemical Peel: Home: immediate; Work: 5 days
d. Fractional Laser peel:  Home: immediate; Work: 2 days

Q:  How much weight will I lose after liposuction?
A:  1-4 pounds. Liposuction works best for localized areas of fat. Removal of even a pound of fat in one area can make a remarkable difference. (See the “Body Contouring” section of this website.)

Q:  What type of anesthesia does Dr. Viggiano use?
A:  Dr. Viggiano uses local anesthesia and will use oral or IV sedation when needed (Valium® and ketamine).  If you are sedated, you will breathe on your own and yet you will be unaware of the procedure and have no pain.  Beware of physicians who only offer wide-awake surgery. They may be doing this because by regulation they can not sedate you. (See the “Who can do cosmetic surgery?” section of this website.)

Q:  How long will I be at the facility for my surgery and recovery?
A:  For facelift, browlift, laser peel, breast augmentation, and liposuction the average length of time in the facility is 3-5 hours. For eyelid surgery it is 1 to 2 hours. For Botox®, fillers, and microdermabrasion it is 30 minutes.

Q:  How far in advance do I have to schedule my surgery?
A:  Usually about 4 weeks.

Q:  Does Dr. Viggiano do MOHS surgery?
A:  No. A surgeon (Dr. Mohs) first used MOHS surgery on June 23, 1933 and it is performed only by dermatologists. Plastic Surgeons, ENT doctors, general surgeons, and pathologists do not perform MOHS surgery. Dr. Viggiano will do a “frozen section” (which, like MOHS, can show that the cancer is cured while the patient is waiting) when necessary. The frozen section utilizes the skills of both a pathologist and the surgeon. It takes much less time than MOHS, is less painful, and the defect can be repaired at the time of the removal. This leads to a faster, more complete recovery. (See the “Skin Cancer” and “What is MOHS surgery?” section of this website.)

Q:  Does Dr. Viggiano remove tattoos?
A:  No. Tattoo removal requires specialized lasers. We will gladly refer you for treatment.

Q:  What can I do about pigment changes on my face?
A:  Prescriptive strength skin care products with Retin-A® and hydroquinone will to reduce or eliminate these areas. (See the “Dermesse” section of this website.)

Q:  What type of laser does Dr. Viggiano you have?
A:  Dr. Viggiano owns a resurfacing carbon dioxide laser that is useful to smooth out wrinkles, lower scars, and thin thick nasal skin, and can be used to remove some skin lesions. No other physician in St. Lucie County owns this type of laser. (See the “Laser Resurfacing” section of this website.) Dr. Viggiano has access to other lasers and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) units in his practice that can be used to remove unwanted hair, lessen fine wrinkles, and blend skin color.  These treatments are performed by a specialist right here in the office.

Q:  How much does Botox® cost?  How long does it last?
A:  The cost for Botox® varies with the amount needed. Call the office for information. The beneficial effects usually last 4 months but can last much longer or be permanent. (See the “Botox” section of this website.)

Q:  How much do fillers cost?  How long do they last?
A:  The cost of fillers, like that of Botox®, depends on the amount of product that you need. Call the office for information. The beneficial effects usually last about 6 to 18 months depending on the product used. (See the “Filling Agents” section of this website.)
