Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

You may have noticed that your eyes appear "puffy" or that you have lower eyelid "bags".lower bleph.png

You may have noticed that your eyes appear “puffy” or that you have lower eyelid “bags.” You may see a depression beneath the bag called the tear trough. Loss of fat in the tear trough and bulging of the fat of the lower eyelid are common and become more common with age. Usually the skin is only mildly sagging or not sagging at all. Lower eyelid procedures improve the appearance of your eyes by removing the bags, removing what little excess skin there may be, and restoring firmness to the area beneath the eyes. The scar is hidden below the lashes.

Connie wanted to have the bags under her eyes improved. This 55 year old, light skinned woman was happy with the result of removing the excess skin with a minimal procedure. She is seen four months after her surgery.

Catherine did not like the discoloration of her lower eyelids or the bagginess of her cheeks. She was aware that the yellow color of her lower eyelids was due to cholesterol deposits. This 51 year old, light skinned woman was rightly happy with the result of removing the excess skin and cholesterol deposits.

If you have excess skin on the lower part of the lower eyelids (a festoon) but little fat then direct removal of the excess skin may be all that you need.

If you have no fat bulge in your lower eyelids but only a little wrinkled skin, then a lower eyelid laser peel may be right for you (see Lower Eyelid Laser Peel).

If you have excess skin well below the eyelids (festoons), perhaps even resting on the cheek, then direct removal of this skin can be effective. The scar is nearly invisible at the lower end of the lower eyelid.
