If you have large breasts, you may be experiencing more than dissatisfaction with your body image
You may have backaches, neck pain, and other pains, as well as recurrent rashes beneath your breasts or even “grooving” in your shoulders from the weight of your breasts pulling on your bra straps. You may be unable to do activities that you would like to do due to discomfort and self consciousness. You may also have difficulty finding clothing that fits properly.
Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, breast tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with the rest of your body. It can alleviate the physical difficulties that you may be experiencing and give you an overall sense of improved self confidence and well being.
Almost all large breasts are also saggy breasts. For this reason the scars are similar to the Mastopexy scars with the difference being that breast tissue is also removed with the excess skin. All reduction procedures require two scars: one around the areola (the dark skin around the nipple) and the other down from the areola to the fold. The most common procedure also leaves a third scar which goes side to side in the breast fold (the result is “the anchor incision”). Dr. Viggiano almost always can reduce the breast without the need for the side-to side scar.
Occasionally a short side-to-side scar is required to get the best result possible. In this way the scarring is much less than in older techniques and consists only of the around-the-areola and the down from-the-areola-to-the-fold scars (“the lollipop incision”).
