Mini Tummy Tuck (Mini Abdominoplasty)

For patients who have trouble with lower abdominal skin, a mini abdominoplasty or mini tummy tuck is an excellent treatment option. Mini tummy tucks are great for reducing stretched or saggy skin on the lower belly. Without this excess skin or belly “pooch,” many men and women are more confident in bathing suits and form fitting clothing.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Mini Tummy Tuck?

Dr. Viggiano meets with all patients to discuss treatment options, but if you are wondering if a mini tummy tuck is right for you, here are some factors to consider.

Are you healthy and is your weight stable? Mini abdominoplasty is a good treatment option for patients in good health, who are at or near a healthy weight, and have completed pregnancies.

Is your loose skin located primarily below your belly button? Mini tummy tucks are designed to target lower abdominal skin. For patients with larger amounts of excess skin, a fully tummy tuck may be a better solution.

The Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure

In general, a mini tummy tuck can be performed with a shorter incision than a full abdominoplasty and unlike a full abdominoplasty, there is no scar around the belly button (umbilicus). Dr. Viggiano will consult with each patient to determine the best incision placement for his or her body, where scars can be hidden but results will be maximized. Mini tummy tucks are performed under general anesthesia and can take two to three hours. If Dr. Viggiano is performing additional treatments at the same time as the mini abdominoplasty, then surgery may take longer.

Mini Tummy Tuck Recovery & Results

After a mini abdominoplasty, patients typically experience soreness, swelling and bruising. Some patients are home from work for up to a week post-treatment, and Dr. Viggiano usually recommends avoiding strenuous activity for four to six weeks. After a mini tummy tuck, patients wear a fitted garment to aid in recovery. Other recovery instructions will depend on the patient and the type of treatment performed. Dr. Viggiano will be sure to discuss your individual recovery plan before and after surgery.

After a mini tummy tuck, your body will continue to change. Most patients notice lower abdominal changes for weeks or months after the procedure.
