The IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial is a 15-30 minute procedure done in our office that uses the powerful pulses of laser light to penetrate below the skin’s epidermis, stimulating the production of collagen and the constriction of blood vessels in such a way that helps reduce skin redness. IPL is also very helpful for brown spots (age spots).
An IPL Photofacial is a relatively gentle procedure with minimal discomfort during the administration of a topical laser that emits high-energy light waves deep into the skin.
People with white, untanned and relatively elastic skin are the best candidates for an IPL Photofacial. Tanned or naturally dark-skinned people may experience unwanted changes in skin pigmentation after a treatment. If you or the doctor are concerned, a “test spot” can be done to see how the patient will react.
An IPL Photofacial involves little discomfort and no downtime. While some redness and swelling may occur immediately after the procedure, this typically disappear shortly after treatment. This is a gradual change in the patient’s appearance. Optimum results are noted up to 3 months after any one treatment. Typically 3-5 treatments are required to achieve desired results.
