Let’s face it – over time, we all age, and often the effects of aging are visible on our faces. As we grow older, our skin loses elasticity and can begin to sag. Deep creases often develop between the nose and mouth. Excess fat and sagging skin in the neck area can result in the appearance of a “double chin.” Luckily, both women and men can correct some of these signs of aging with a facelift. A facelift (or rhytidectomy) is a great way to bring back your younger looking face and neck, without the wrinkles or loose skin. Dr. Viggiano can help you look refreshed and renewed, and a more youthful face can boost your self-esteem.
The Facelift Procedure
Dr. Viggiano works with each patient individually to customize a facelift procedure that addresses each patient’s concerns but also still looks natural. Facelifts can be categorized in one of three ways:
1) Mid-Facelift – focusing on cheeks
2) Mini-Facelift – focusing on middle and lower face but not including neck
3) Full Facelift – focusing on both the face and neck
A facelift can also be combined with other procedures such as rhinoplasty, otoplasty, and fat grafting.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Facelift?
Because a facelift procedure is specific to each patient, it is important to schedule a consultation with Dr. Viggiano to discuss whether a facelift is right for you.
In general, patients that are good candidates for a facelift meet these criteria:
– Are in good health
– Do not smoke
– Have realistic expectations for facelift results
– Have sagging skin on the face and/or neck but still have some elasticity in the skin
– Have strong bone structure
Most patients are between 40 and 70 years old, but Dr. Viggiano does treat patients that are younger and older. Additionally, if it is determined that a facelift is not the right course of treatment for you, there may be other plastic surgery or non-surgical options to address your areas of concern.
A facelift is a great way to turn back the clock on signs of aging. Dr. Viggiano helps provide patients with a natural, beautiful, and more youthful looking face. While it takes a few weeks to months to recover from a facelift, after the procedure most patients notice the following benefits:
– Tightened facial muscles – can help the results of your facelift last longer
– Tightened skin – sagging skin is tightened to a natural (not “pulled” overly tight) state
– Defined facial contours – smoothed lines to cheeks, eyes, and/or neck
– Improved self-esteem and confidence
Recovery from a Facelift
Immediately after undergoing a facelift, patients notice swelling, bruising, and facial pain. Facelift recovery time often depends on the individual patient as well as the type of procedure that was completed. While most patients are feeling better within one month, patients can often see changes in his or her appearance up to eight weeks post-facelift. Facelift results usually last for ten or more years.
